Concept

Microorganisms play a crucial role in our lives, ecosystems, and the planet through their contributions to food production, the maintenance of biogenic element cycles, medicine, clean water, decarbonization, and sustainability. Despite their importance, microorganisms are often overlooked due to their invisibility. The International Microbiology Literacy Initiative (IMiLI) aims to improve global microbiology literacy by creating learner-centered and socially relevant educational resources that emphasize sustainability, social needs, and critical thinking.

IMiLI’s educational materials focus on everyday microbial activities, from food production to disease prevention, and are designed for all levels of learning. Regional Centers adapt these resources to local languages and cultures, ensuring global accessibility and fostering a dynamic educational ecosystem driven by feedback. The initiative seeks to empower societies with microbiology knowledge to make informed decisions, promote sustainability, and address global challenges.
